Scale the Depths Legendary Fish

Every world hides one legendary fish — a rare boss catch worth far more than any regular species, and usually tied to a reward or a top customer’s favorite. Here is where each one hides and how to land it without losing the fight.

◇ What makes a fish legendary

Legendary fish are not part of the normal catch pool. Each one is a large, multi-hit boss that lives in the deepest part of its world, appears at the end of the route, and demands a dedicated run with strong gear. They are also the highest-value catches in the game — the favorite of each world’s top-paying customer, and in Loch Ness’s case the key to a collectible artifact.

The golden rule players repeat — “don’t cut the legendary fish” — is real advice: scale it cleanly above the quality threshold rather than panic-cutting, or you lose most of its value. Go in with an upgraded hook, full line length, and an empty bag.

◆ Stage 1Loch Ness

Beithir

Loch Ness's legendary fish — a serpent-dragon named for Scottish folklore, and the one whose prep hands you the Loch Ness shield artifact.

▶ Where it hides

Hooked deep in the ruined Loch Ness cave, then scaled at the prep station.

✦ How to catch it

  • Reach the deep cave route at the bottom of Loch Ness with enough line and a strong hook.
  • Beithir is a long, multi-hit serpent — lead your hook ahead of its path, not where it currently sits.
  • Scaling it cleanly is what grants the Loch Ness shield artifact, so do not rush the prep.
◆ Stage 2Huatulco

HogaTexcocichthys hoga

Huatulco's legendary fish — Hoga (Texcocichthys hoga), the catch Quetzalcōātl pays the most for.

▶ Where it hides

Huatulco's final deep route, after the puzzle chain and late collection path.

✦ How to catch it

  • Reach Hoga only after Pouch, the boat decal and the cloth chest are done — make it a clean, dedicated run.
  • Hoga moves in wider arcs than normal fish and commits to its path. Keep your hook ahead of where it's moving, not where it just was.
  • The fight punishes weak hook damage — if it drags on, upgrade hook or line before retrying.
  • Don't start with a nearly full bag; go in light so you have time and line to keep pressure.
◆ Stage 3Outer Banks

Lost DimetrodonDimetrodon limbatus

Outer Banks' legendary fish — Lost Dimetrodon, the prehistoric catch Alligator favors.

▶ Where it hides

Spotted during the middle section; the real catch is at the end of the route after all collectables.

✦ How to catch it

  • Find the Lost Dimetrodon route early, but treat the first sighting as a marker — don't start the fight while still cleaning collectables.
  • Return with enough line, a stronger hook and empty storage. It's a moving multi-hit fish that punishes weak hook damage.
  • Lead the fish — aim ahead of where it's moving, not where it currently is. It pulls away as you approach.
  • If you keep running out of line or dive time, leave, upgrade line length or hook, and come back through the cleanest shortcut.

? Frequently asked

How many legendary fish are in Scale the Depths?

Each world has one legendary fish — a rare, high-value boss catch separate from the regular species. Loch Ness has the Beithir, Huatulco has Hoga, and Outer Banks has the Lost Dimetrodon. Point Nemo's boss catch is still being verified across sources, so it is not listed here until confirmed.

Should I cut or scale the legendary fish?

Scale it cleanly — do not panic-cut it. The legendary fish is each world's highest-value catch, and several are tied to rewards: scaling the Beithir cleanly grants the Loch Ness shield artifact, and the legendary fish is the favorite of each world's top-paying customer. A clean scale above the quality threshold is what earns the full payout and tip.

Where is the legendary fish in each world?

Legendary fish sit at the end of each world's route, in its deepest section, after the collectibles. Beithir is in the ruined Loch Ness cave, Hoga is on Huatulco's final deep route after the puzzle chain, and the Lost Dimetrodon is at the end of the Outer Banks route. Each one is a dedicated run — go in with strong gear and an empty bag.

Why can't I catch the legendary fish?

Legendary fish are multi-hit catches that punish weak hook damage and short line. If the fight drags on or you run out of dive time, leave, upgrade your hook and line length, and return through the cleanest shortcut. Lead your hook ahead of the fish's path rather than chasing where it currently is.
